HSBC - a personal view

Flexible Minds worked with HSBC's Midlands' Sales' Team throughout 2010 to increase their sales: the intervention has lead to an increase in the team’s sales of over 70%. You can read about the impact upon the whole team here, this case study is about the effect of the training on one business development manager, Simon Richards.

Simon was one of the four members of staff that opted to take individual coaching from Mark Webster and this started in April 2010.

Simon: “I went in with an open mind. I’ve done lots of training in both sales and management development and I was pretty cynical. You are plonked in classroom for days at a time and forget everything as soon as you go back to your desk.”

Simon: "This was different; it wasn't forced upon me. I chose to do it."

Simon: "Mark made you view where you are and what you are doing, regularly. Even if I stopped doing it for a couple of weeks, I’d meet up with Mark, notice the difference between when I was focussing and not, and restart."

The training also had a significant impact upon Simon’s personal life. These changes, coupled with additional commission payments due to his high performance, meant that Simon’s personal life was much happier. This improved his work performance further: a virtuous circle

Simon: “During 2009 I separated from my wife and two boys. The training helped me understand what I wanted in my life and how I went about improving my quality of life. We have been back together now for 12 months and my home life is better than ever.” 

Simon was used to performing well. His income target for 2010 was increased by 130% (2.3 times) compared with 2009 target. But in 2010, he exceeded the 2009 target by 252% and his training only took effect in the second half of the year.

Flexible Minds training is designed to be learnt and remembered and people continue to improve performance long after the training is completed.

Simon: "I'm still learning and still improving. I know that I've still got some way to go before my performance is maximised."
